316 Stainless Steel Expanded Mesh

316 Stainless Steel Expanded Mesh

Contains molybdenum (Grade 316); resistant to chloride ion corrosion (seawater)
Formed from a single sheet via stretching; no welds; robust structure
Open area: 30–75%; customizable specifications

Product Introduction

316 Steel Expanded Mesh is made from a single sheet of 316 or 316L stainless steel. The sheet is cut and stretched in one continuous process, forming a seamless, weld-free mesh with a diamond pattern that provides good strength while keeping the mesh lightweight. With 2%-3% molybdenum, 316 stainless steel has good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in chloride-rich environments. It is suitable for marine, chemical processing, pharmaceutical, and other applications where corrosion resistance is required.

Surface Types

Raised

The strands retain an angle after expansion, creating a three-dimensional, slip-resistant surface. Suitable for walkways, stair treads, platforms, and machine guards. Offers excellent drainage and debris clearance, along with superior traction in wet or slippery conditions.

Flattened

Processed via cold rolling to create a smooth, uniform surface. Suitable for architectural facades, decorative screens, filter elements, and precision screening. Features high dimensional accuracy and is easy to process further.

316 Stainless Steel Expanded Mesh is made by cutting and stretching a single sheet of stainless steel, with no welded joints in the finished mesh. This continuous structure provides good stability and is suitable for applications exposed to vibration. Made from 316 stainless steel containing 2%-3% molybdenum, it offers good resistance to chloride-induced pitting and is suitable for seawater, salt spray, and chemical environments. Compared with solid steel plates, the mesh can reduce weight by about 30% while maintaining good rigidity, helping reduce the load on the supporting structure. Open area ratios from 30% to 75% are available for different ventilation, light transmission, and screening requirements. Pickling and passivation or electropolishing can also be provided to improve surface cleanliness and corrosion resistance.

Applications

Marine Engineering includes things like walkways for offshore platforms, grating on ship decks, and mesh to support seawater filters.

In the Chemical Industry, you'll find reactor tower packing supports, protective covers for pickling lines, and filter mesh for chlor-alkali equipment.

For Pharmaceuticals and Biotech, there's cleanroom return air vents, trays for sterilization cabinets, and mesh for sieving that meets pharmacopoeia standards.

In Food Processing, we use baking racks, safety guards for conveyor belts, and spray guards for washing machines.

When it comes to Architecture and Decoration, you might see sunshades for curtain walls, infill panels for railings, and decorative ceiling mesh being used.

Lastly, Industrial Protection features machine guards, covers for cable trays, and shielding for annealing furnaces.

FAQ

Q: Are you on board with third-party inspections and material certifications?

A: Absolutely! We work with inspection agencies like SGS and BV. Every shipment comes with the steel mill's Material Test Report (MTR) and an EN 10204 3.1 certificate.

Q: What kinds of surface treatments can you get for 316 stainless steel expanded mesh?

A: You have a few options: pickling and passivation, electropolishing, or even flattening to achieve the right look for sanitary or decorative purposes.

Q: What is the main difference between 316 stainless steel expanded mesh and 304 steel expanded mesh?

A: Well Grade 316 has 2‑3% molybdenum, which gives Grade 316 way resistance to chloride‑induced pitting corrosion compared to Grade 304. That is why Grade 316 is a choice, for marine environments, salt spray and chemical settings.
